Thanks to a new report from ABC News, we now know that Condoleezza Rice led White House meetings authorizing torture that were so detailed, "the interrogation sessions were almost choreographed."
How can we express the terrible shock we have felt from the fact that our government is using torture? How can we express what so many of us are thinking—that it is absolutely appalling to know that our representatives are implementing barbaric instruments of torture as policy? How do we express our moral outrage?
Perhaps more importantly, how do we begin to take steps towards ending this heinous crime? Sign the petition and demand Secretary of State Rice to resign.
Our allies at True Majority, USAction, and Democracy for America have launched a campaign to start calling out our leaders by focusing on Condoleezza Rice. No, she is not the President. But we want to call attention to the fact that the Secretary of State called for torture when she was National Security Adviser.
This is our campaign to get all three Presidential nominees to call for Rice's resignation. Accountability must start with her, especially now that she's being mentioned as a potential Vice Presidential candidate. We want to push all the Presidential candidates on this issue. They need to make a public stance: Condi Must Go!

Since Congressman Chris Van Hollen made the announcement on C-Span, that no impeachments would occur during the 110th Congress, maybe he (Pelosi,&Hoyer) should go, too!
You know - winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi's reminds me of the chains of human ears and fingers that were worn around the necks of the killers in Viet Nam. It is estimated that the deaths of innocents in Iraq - non-combatants - women and children - elderly and young. IS IN THE MILLIONS. Wake up to the nightmare!
They don't want to post pictures of their hearts and minds and heinously tortured and mutilated bodies. We only hear of the technical aspects if torture 101 colloquially known as water boarding. (surfs up) How about those that don't make it? Who is really behind the death squads in Iraq.
Perhaps you haven't noticed the censorship of the media coverage of this so called "war".
wake up to the cold cold truth.
Candy is the simply the tip of the iceburg
maybe murdering entire families while their children watch, then raping and burning their virgin daughters bodies is psychological torture.... hmm seems to me that something like that has happened over there... what else is happening there that we don't know. Perhaps there are others who will let us know too. Where is the media .. missing in action again ...
Should any of us be surprised that CON-di has been lying under oath to the American people? Just like the mountain of lies Bush has already peddled, CON-di's lies are par for the course for this corrupt and cowardly administration. Bush and his intimates have yet again been caught in their own lies, this time about despicable acts of barbarism they have carried out under cover of secrecy with the complicity of our military and the protection of mainstream media.
Now that CON-di's been exposed as a liar to her own countrymen, how can she possibly be an effective representative of America's goals in the arena of international diplomacy? SHE HAS BECOME UTTERLY IRRELEVANT.
To FRANK ONDRUS
Who are you to decide who lives and who dies?
What if they are just normal people which took arms to defend their country?
US agression on Iraq resulted in over 1 100 000 civilians killed, and over 5 000 000 refugees.
It looks like their fight and their resistance is legitimate.
Regarding Rice, she is just a puppet in this game, and she will take the heat for her masters.
Same old story ... US "democracy" ...
Perhaps even worse can be said about Dr. Rice.
Her willful inaction to warnings issued from January to July 2001 about terrorist attacks inside the United States was grossly negligent--to the point of imputing intent in some jurisdictions. In July she foisted off a preliminary meeting on her deputy, current National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley. Only within TEN DAYS prior to 9/11 did SHE do anything regarding the warnings. It can be posited that this delay wiped out ANY chance to do something to prevent 9/11.
Why? While it's a valid question, actions speak louder than motives. She's NOT a member of the Project for the New American Century, the "think tank" (sharing address and membership with the American Enterprise Institute) that came up with our miserable Iraq strategy. Neither she nor Mr. Bush were ever members of that cabal, which in 1998 or 1999 published a position paper calling for the establishment of a Western-style democracy in an Arab Middle Eastern state. As a condition precedent for such action, the paper called for a Pearl Harbor-like event to occur in/to the United States. Nine-eleven fit perfectly with this scenario. And top Administration officials, from Cheney and Rumsfeld down to Wolfowitz, Perle, and Feith, were all signers to the Project for the New American Century manifesto. Don't simply take my word for it--unless they pulled it, this organization still has the hubris to post all of this on its web site.
The fact that she ignored warnings--and then lied about it--and "did not remember" attending/leading White House meetings about torture, reflect the strong possibility that Dr. Rice (and the others) are sociopaths of a kind not seen in high office since the Third Reich, and never before seen in high American office.
There is NOTHING that Dr. Rice (and the others) can do to burnish their reputations, although various of the Project for the New American Century signers are trying mightily by publishing self-justifications. Dr. Rice is trying--unsuccessfully--to broker a Middle East peace.
More people probably died in the World Trade Center than died at the instance of another sociopath, Ilse Koch. People in these United States no longer learn much about Nazi Germany and the horrors it spawned, so some of the morally unhinged among us (see above) think they can repeat history from the dark side. Mrs. Koch was the wife of the commandant of first Buchenwald and then Majdanek concentration camps. She had a fascination with tattoos, and her "craft project" during the war was to use inmates' skins to make lampshades and handbags. However, less people were killed in this particular, sick endeavor than in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 on 9/11. And smug, mendacious Condoleeza Rice did nothing for six months in response to constant warnings, making her (at best) contributorily negligent or (more likely) complicit in their deaths.
Resignation from her current position is not punishment enough for such an individual. She has contributed to our loss of national reputation. Like Germany, we need some form of public atonement. She should not only be forced to resign, but (citing her behavior as a form of moral turpitude far worse than sexual promiscuity or having consensual sex with a minor), Stanford should revoke her tenure. She should also be extradited to stand trial in The Hague for war crimes. (It's no surprise that Bush did NOT want us to sign on to the Hague Protocols.)
In sum, had Condoleeza Rice stuck to her pianism, and Hitler remained a painter, the world would have been a much better place.
Jenso I totally agree with you. Why sign this petition for Condi to leave when the President is the ring leader. It's obvious that he uses as many scapegoats as he can; it's time for the master goat to leave. I'll sign that petition!
WHAT A BUNCH OF PINKOS YOU ARE, NOBODY CARES WHAT HAPPENS TO MUSLIM TERRORISTS - TORTURE THEM TO DEATH OR BEHEAD THEM AS THEY WOULD US.
ONLY YOU LEFT LEANING SOCIALISTS AND "POLITICALLY CORRECT" DEMOCRATS WOULD RAISE THE ISSUE. YOU PROBABLY WANT TO PUT THEM ON THE WELFARE SYSTEM TOO. WHY DON'T YOU MOVE TO THE MIDDLE EAST TO BE WITH THEM AND SEE HOW THEY TREAT YOU.
Sure, Condi needs to go too, but why are we getting our panties in a knot over that. Bush himself admits that he knew they were meeting, he knew they were meeting to plan torture and that he approved the meeting. I don't know how hard it is to edit the Condi film to add that bit from the President, admitting to breaking the way, admitting to high crimes. But surely it is worth it. There comes a time when not speaking out is treason too. And we seem close to that time to me.
I am choosing not to sign this petition. I don’t believe Condi is personally responsible for this. She is clearly a puppet, just like her boss.
Although I signed the petition, I also agree that criminal charges should be brought against Rice, Cheney, then Bush (and like 4/5 other people at least). I stated as much in the comments section and also that these criminals should be followed into perpetuity until they have been officially and appropriately brought to justice.
We're all for impeachment.. and we've been trying on that front, fwiw. Our Impeach Cheney video/petition got a lot of traction, but obviously didn't work out.
We have a better shot right now at getting the presidential candidates to call for her resignation than trying to get pelosi to initiate impeachment.
The other blog posters have it right, and as a big fan of Brave New Films, I think they have this one really wrong. I have not previously been a member of the pro-impeachment movement myself, mainly as a matter of politics, but if you're going to make videos explicitly accusing the Bush Administration of knowlingly committing high crimes and misdemeanors - and it sure as heck looks like they did it - how can you not demand that Congress initiate impeachment proceedings? Aren't you actually condoning criminal activity in government if your only response is a citizen petition asking one of the guilty members - and only one of them - to be fired?
Again, I'm a big fan of your work, but I think you guys really need to consider this one....
Gordon Clark
Absolutely agree with Richard. Do not make Condi resign until the hearings John Conyers set for May 6th begin - John Yoo is his first witness.
Brad Sherman and other HJC members have called for a full investigation of the Bush/Cheney administration for abuse of power, false intelligence, etc etc. LET the HEARINGS BEGIN! Don't let Condi be the only sacrifice -- that might be seen as sufficient!
Instead, put pressure on all HJC members to demand answers at the hearings, absolutely reject any disregard of subpoenas, put pressure on MSM to do their duty and cover this story, and let the people finally begin to see what this administration is, for real.
Resign.....Resign?
The US Constitution calls for nothing less than Impeachment and Prosecution for all of those who break with the Constitution. This includes many in this Executive branch and also many in Congress
anything less is UnAmerican. Further by this process they will be excluded from further participation in any level of governance, and they should lose retirenment benefits as well though they may be taken care of in jail cells for a while. In my opinion anything less is a waste.
.
Yeh, go to jail
